About MIM
The Society of Turkish Architects, Engineers and Scientists (Turk Mimar, Muhendis ve Bilimciler Dernegi), known as MIM, was established in New York City on May 22, 1970. MIM is a private nonprofit, educational, non-political association of architects, engineers, and scientists of Turkish-American origin. MIM has been through many phases during the last two decades starting from a small group of friends in 1970. MIM has grown into a professional organization of over 1000 members, architects, engineers and scientists.
In addition, MIM has been accredited as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by the United Nations.
The purpose of MIM is to fulfill the needs of Turkish-American professionals, students and their families in the USA, which can only be addressed by an organization of their own cultural and educational disposition. To this end, MIM organizes the following programs and activities:
• MIM publishes a biyearly bulletin which includes news about current and upcoming professional and social activities, including original articles written by members informing us about their current research & professional activities, with updates on personal information about members.
• MIM prepares and maintains a database of the Turkish American professionals and scientists who are residents of the USA.
• MIM provides and facilitates opportunity to members whose expertise is needed in Turkey.
• Through its networking, MIM informs members about professional activities and job opportunities in the USA and Turkey. MIM puts particular emphasis on helping its members to find jobs in industry. MIM acts as a source of reference, providing information about Turkish American professionals when such information is requested by US and Turkish institutions.
• MIM organizes seminars and business conferences on relevant technical and scientific issues in order to increase the exposure of Turkish scientists and professionals in this country, MIM inform its members about current relevant research in their own fields, US companies towards investment and collaboration in Turkey.
• In addition to its role as a professional organization in the USA, MIM serves the particular cultural disposition of its members in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut regions. Social events organized by MIM include many cultural and artistic events sponsored by other Turkish organization in the USA, which enables MIM members and their families to maintain identity and heritage.
In order to achieve its goals noted above, MIM needs an increasing number of volunteers to organize specific events, to head various committees on research, symposiums, and social events and to uphold the professional image of Turkish architects, engineers and scientists in the USA. Your involvement of a few hours a month can be most rewarding.
